Wind goose decoys. Description of different types of decoys for white-fronted goose

DmitriyL 02-04-2005 22:50

Who used Folks decoys? For example, model CDG-55 (goose and duck) or PL22 (White-fronted goose). To what extent does their sound correspond to what is advertised? I'm interested in decoys for White-fronted, Gray, Bean, Mallard.
Thanks in advance, Dmitry.

Vadimka 03-04-2005 02:55

Dmitriy! To choose a goose decoy, you need to hear its cackling for yourself! For example, I heard these American “Fowls” when I was choosing a decoy for a duck, so what I heard can hardly be called a duck “quack.” In the end, I bought an ordinary domestic Tomsk decoy for pennies (compared to Faulk).
Don’t think that these “Fowls” are a *****, it’s just that the voices of ducks, geese and other game seem to differ from those of America and Kosovo.

MaximCh 03-04-2005 06:45

Well, yes, they speak English and we speak Russian GY!

Soldier 04-04-2005 10:34

Here in our store I saw imported decoys (I couldn’t see the brand) for ducks. So there are 2 types of them - just cracked and something like cracked converted. The second option is 120 rubles more expensive. I’ve already heard somewhere on hunting forums that imported ducks and geese naturally quack and cackle differently. Not much, but wild individuals are not tempted by foreign voices.

MaximCh 04-04-2005 10:55

I have GAME CALLS INC. Model S-81 Speckle Belly.
I learned how to work with them perfectly during the 5th season.

Ochotnik 05-04-2005 10:40

I heard that imported ducks and geese naturally quack and cackle differently...
Sorry, but I seriously doubt it, then “imported” dogs bark differently, and cats mewl differently than we do.

Vadimka 05-04-2005 16:40

Ochotnik
From abroad there is a different population of birds, they have different living conditions and different development. If American women do not speak, but meow, then ducks even more so. Many people have repeatedly written that foreign decoys sound different. I myself compared the American ones with the Russian ones and I could hear the difference from the first approach. BUT this does not mean that American bullshit, I’m sure there is an American decoy (and it’s not for nothing that the same Fowls have about 50 species for duck) can be working. But still, my Russian is ordinary and it works one hundred percent.

Ochotnik 05-04-2005 17:11

We mainly have geese and ducks that winter in northern Africa, I’ll go on vacation to Egypt in the summer, I’ll need to look for the decoys there.

Vadimka 05-04-2005 18:20

OFF: Isn’t it a little hot in Egypt in the summer?

Samarets 05-04-2005 18:28

I have a completely American decoy, brought from there (though from a one-off series). The experts who listened differ in their assessments - some say “not a single duck would be flattered by him,” one hunting agent suggested waving without looking at Darn 12 k (though Darn was almost in a state of scrap metal). And the ducks like it - they fly well

Ochotnik 05-04-2005 21:16

Last year in August in Hurghada it was +30-35, in Aswan +60.

Vadimka 05-04-2005 21:59

Ochotnik
I was in July, though in Turkey, when the weather reached its peak, 45-50 degrees, nothing so normal, I got used to it in 15 days. Then 35 seemed cool weather. I can imagine what it was like in Egypt at that time.

Ochotnik 06-04-2005 09:09

At noon in July-August, here in the north of Komi it can reach +35, and in the north of Transbaikalia, where I once lived, it’s not uncommon at all, but we managed and are coping without air conditioning.
Well, as for the decoys, I strongly doubt that the bean goose winters in China, Indonesia, India, northern Africa or South America"The voice has its own dialect."
The difference is in the voices of grays, bean gooses, white-fronted, etc. YES, IT IS VERY SIGNIFICANT AND UNCONDITIONABLE.

Samarets 06-04-2005 09:22

But in the states the main hunting goose is the Canada goose.

Ochotnik 06-04-2005 11:44

So, don’t take a decoy for a goose - use a bean goose or a white-fronted one.

Vadimka 06-04-2005 12:53

Ochotnik
Well, in the summer it can get up to 40. I consider the normal temperature to be 20-25 degrees.
About decoys. I don’t know about geese, I’m not good at it.

Turanchoks 06-04-2005 16:01

I use LOHMAN for goose. A friend’s is also American, but with a corrugated hose (it’s attached to it), you play with it like a pot, with this hose. Not bad, very quiet, mine is louder. We usually work with two decoys. So far we're happy.

DmitriyL 06-04-2005 21:51

2 Turanchoks.
Could you please tell me the catalog number of the decoy, what kind of goose it is for, where and how much you purchased it for?
Best regards, Dmitry.

Turanchoks 07-04-2005 11:04

DmitriyL. I already wrote in some topic the number of duck and goose, if you search around, you might find it today, I don’t remember the number, I’ll look and write tomorrow. I bought it in St. Petersburg in the Orlan store (the director there is Borya Kholondovsky), a great specialist, and he is well versed in decoys, he recommended it to me, it costs 500 rubles, is made of transparent plastic, and both bean and gray bean goats well on it.

AVN_21 07-04-2005 12:54

DmitriyL. I already wrote in some topic the number of duck and goose, if you search around, you might find it....

Good day to all!
I’ll take the liberty of answering for Turanchoks (I saved the decoy number for myself, tried to find the same one):

Lohman (gold series)
N semolina 1025
on the bean goose and gray goose.

Best regards, Volodya.

Ochotnik 07-04-2005 13:08

This is what I saw in the price list of the Griffin-V store.
Decoy goose with electric drive price 10,000 rub.
The truth is in the "Monkey" section.
But creating a decoy goose with an electric drive is a bit weak

Turanchoks 07-04-2005 13:15

Volodya, thank you, yes, his number is correct: 1025. By the way, Vladimir, did they find the same one or not?

sergAY 07-04-2005 13:19

Today in Moscow I was on Semenovskaya in the Walter store, there is an American decoy - for white-fronted goose costs 832 rubles, the last one is left, I’ve been using this decoy for 5 years now and quite a few goose have been killed from under it in the Yaroslavl, Tula and Kaluga regions. All my friends are the same. I don’t know the name, the tube is transparent and inside there is a piece of wood with a metal tongue, it works just great and there were no sticking of the tongue.

kayk 07-04-2005 13:42

About 8 years ago I saw a guy have a wonderful decoy called a crying goose. It’s a very specific cry that makes your skin crawl, it’s the cry of a solitary goose and the guy worked with it professionally, so the geese fell to him as if spellbound. This decoy was brought to him from Holland and it was worth it there then $20. It is a tube made of semi-matte plastic with a smoky color. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything else about this decoy, but if anyone knows anything, please tell me.

Thank you very much for the information.
Best regards, Dmitry.

sergAY 08-04-2005 09:35

There, according to the price list, it costs 360 rubles, in fact, 460+ 150 rubles for delivery in Moscow. In general, it's a temptation.

What versions will there be, citizens?... Bolder, bolder, comrades. Speak out more actively. The jury will consider all proposals, even the most crazy ones

Samarets 08-04-2005 19:27

I won’t say anything about geese, but I know for sure about ducks. In the country of the decaying bourgeoisie and victorious capitalism (USA), duck calling championships are regularly held (!). I don’t know what the rules are there, and how they judge who is better and who is worse, but there are people who practice this sport professionally. And they also design their own decoys. Not all of them are wooden, although it would seem that wood is easier to process in artisanal conditions. But plastic decoys are not cheap stamping. Firstly, the material on them is very difficult. Secondly, they are made quite cleverly. Thirdly, wood tends to change shape when humidity changes (are there any guitarists among those present?) and if it is treated from moisture, it “doesn’t sound.”

Be that as it may, as soon as some mister attracts some birds at some championship, he immediately releases his decoy for sale in a limited edition (I have one like this, a gift). “People eat” with great pleasure - it seems to prove that this decoy is the most seductive decoy. Well, they hang a price tag accordingly.

Doctor F 08-04-2005 19:53

Well, it’s quite a working version, and one might even say an explanation.

AVN_21 11-04-2005 09:10

Good day to all!

Maybe I missed something, but 360.00 rubles (360 rubles 00 kopecks) = about 12 $.

I bought this decoy from them (PL-22) last week for 360 rubles. having previously received confirmation from them by phone that they would sell it to me at the price indicated on their website. It was displayed on the counter for 720 rubles. (apparently demand creates supply). So there is a temptation, but the guys keep their word.

The goose is a shy and cautious bird. A white-fronted goose decoy is a useful device that will make hunting very effective. Goose decoys are used along with stuffed animals and profiles that attract flocks of geese.

If you are seriously passionate about goose hunting, be sure to buy good decoy and master the art of handling it.

    In contact with

    What is a goose decoy?

A decoy is a device with which the hunter imitates the cry of a goose,“talks” to the bird in a language it understands. With the help of a decoy, the sounds of greeting, a call to feed, signals for landing, and a call to return to the desired place are reproduced.

It looks like a small tube 10-15 cm long. The shape resembles a sleeve or a whistle, only longer. A hole for air entry is required. Inside there are resonators (petals) that reproduce sounds of different pitches.

Using different blowing forces, the decoy makes sounds that the geese recognize and sit down to feed in the place where the hunter lures them. To use the device effectively, you need to train, learn how to receive different signals using video instructions on the Internet or under the guidance of an experienced mentor.

Video about how to learn to attract a white-fronted goose. Part 1

    Types of decoys

    There are decoys:

    • manual (mechanical, wind);
    • high tech electronic.

There is an opinion that electronic devices for attracting birds are prohibited. This is not entirely true. The government decree “On the Rules for the Harvesting of Wildlife” of 2009 does not indicate that such decoys cannot be used. The principle applies: what is not prohibited is permitted.

An electronic decoy is a device that accurately reproduces the voices of birds and animals without noise, interference or echo. Choose the right soundtrack, turn it on at the right time, and all the geese are yours. These wary birds easily “buy” the cries of their fellow birds produced by an electronic device.

Popular brands of electronic decoys are produced both in Russia and abroad. Hunters say that there are no special differences, the only difference is the price. Among Russian devices for attracting birds, I would like to note the brands Yeger, Berkut and Dich. Quality products from Beretti, Lockvogel, Cass Creek and LR Active are also represented in the hunting accessories market.

Regular wind decoys for the white-fronted goose are in demand due to availability and ease of use. An important role is played by the excitement that grips the hunter who wants to outwit the goose and force it to land. How successful the call will be depends on the skill of the hunter, who uses the decoy to make sounds understandable to the bird.

Important: if you handle the decoy improperly, an echo may appear; incorrect sounds will only scare away the goose, but will not attract it.

In order for a hand decoy to be an effective assistant, you need to have good hearing. If a bear has stepped on your ear, use an electronic decoy. Not so interesting, but the goal will be achieved. You should learn to adjust the required sound frequency to achieve results.

Decoys come in single- and double-tongued varieties. They are made in production and by handicraft from wood, metal, acrylic, and polymer materials. The cost depends on the manufacturer, material, and design of the product. Handmade decoys, made taking into account the characteristics of a particular person, are highly valued. For most modifications of decoys, you can adjust the tonality.

Video about how to learn to attract a white-fronted goose. Part 2

    Decoy BR-01

The white-fronted goose decoy BR-01 went on sale in 2011. Manufacturer: ART company (Russia, St. Petersburg). The model is in many ways similar to the legendary American Primos Charved. The material is dense plastic, which ensures constant size. The sound assembly (by Sean MAN) does not fall out like some models. Good resonance. Blowing air is easy, without tension.

The range of operation is wide, the volume is perfectly adjustable. If necessary, a soft, quiet sound is produced. Unpretentious, reliable. This single-tongued decoy is suitable for both a novice hunter and an experienced hunter. Feedback from hunters is positive.

Disadvantage: It is difficult for a hunter to pull out long series, since the air leaves quite quickly.

    Decoy RS-30

This model contains different types of materials: body is polymer, sound unit is made of acrylic. Modern polymers (polyamide R-6, caprolon) are not inferior in characteristics to bronze or steel. They have sanitary and hygienic permits and are safe for humans. They withstand loads well, are durable and last a long time. The products are available in various body colors.

A decoy with a thin tongue (made of mylar) provides easy blowing and produces a full range of sounds well. It is possible to adjust the length of the tongue to adjust the tonality.

The model is suitable for those who are mastering the basics of hunting with a decoy for a white-fronted goose. Recommended for use at short and medium distances.

The demand for the white-fronted goose decoy rs 30 is always high, so make sure to purchase it long before the start of the hunting season so that you have time to try it out and practice.

    Primos decoy

Primos white-fronted goose decoy is made in the USA. This model very popular among hunters for a goose. The design is single-tongue, collapsible, which makes it easy to clean it from saliva and condensation. The blowing is quite tight, and it will not be possible to produce long trills. The air consumption is large, the sound is loud and harsh.

There are instructions in English. It is advisable to watch videos on the Internet and at the same time try to extract similar sounds. Made from durable gray plastic. Length – 14cm. The primos decoy is equipped with a hanging cord.

Primos feature: the only decoy that allows you to blow sounds while wearing gloves. The sound, of course, is not ideal, but all other decoys require “bare hands” to work.

    Attention! New

In 2013, Dmitry Melnik’s company SCHOOLHUNTER (HUNTER School of Hunting) released a decoy, which at a low price of 1200 rubles. has excellent characteristics. Low air consumption, easy blowing, the ability to reproduce the most intricate types of goose calls.

Factory setting: medium-high, high notes are held confidently, scratching is initiated very easily. Low notes are also successful. At any speed, the sound of the decoy does not break.

Decoy control obedient to the hunter. It is necessary to thoroughly clean the insides of the decoy so that debris and saliva particles do not interfere with the extraction of the correct sounds from the ultra-sensitive device.

How to hunt white-fronted goose with decoys

Goose is often hunted in groups. Everyone must follow the pre-agreed rules and listen to the group leader.

    Required conditions:

    1. Careful camouflage is required;
    2. No sudden movements;
    3. The shooting begins strictly on the command of the group leader.

The horizon is divided into sectors with conventional names. Hunters position themselves at a distance where they can hear their neighbor. Hunters, seeing a flock of geese, begin to give decoy signals so that the birds hear them and begin landing in the place where stuffed geese and profiles are placed.

Passing geese that move on, not paying attention to profiles, are shot at a height of no more than 60 m as soon as the geese approach. When the flock has decided to land, has broken formation and is gliding above the ground to land, the hunters must merge with the ground and hide their guns.

As soon as the geese make a circle and drop to a height of 30 meters, you need to shoot. If the flock is large, it rarely goes lower. And threes, twos, small flocks of geese descend to 10 meters. There are times when hunters even plant a flock in profile.

With a conditional whistle, the commander authorizes shooting. Each member of the hunting party must fire a shot so that everyone leaves the goose hunt with their kill.

For successful hunting with a decoy for a white-fronted goose take your time choosing a product. Explore different models, consult with experienced hunters and sellers of specialized stores.
